Built directly onto a cliff side, this ancient temple has claimed(声明)its spot since 1692. Rich in history, Tigers Nest is constructed around eight attractive caves on the mountainside. Have you ever noticed that the more you have the more you want? Let’s face it. Thinking our life is good enough doesn’t come naturally to many people. When we have high expectations of everything in life we will run into disappointment. Only when we are aware that needs are different from desires can we live with satisfaction. Here are a few ideas to help you be happier with what you have and who you are.

Focus on what you are thankful for. Most people want things to be better than they are, or when things are going well, we forget to appreciate what we have. Learn to reflect(反映)on how much better things are than they could be. Focus on what you are thankful for. Write down 5 things you are grateful for right now.

When we hold onto regrets from decisions we have made, it can realty poison our well-being. Many people regret something they can no longer change, which ends up holding them back from moving forward in a more positive manner. What happened in the past is done and gone, so work to stay present and be mindful of the current (目前的)moment to find more joy and fulfillment(满足).

When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life we are likely to be less satisfied. Social comparisons can provide useful information when we try to learn from others, but they also hold our perspective(观点)in a discontented position. Compare yourself less with others so you can be satisfied more.

When you are focused on your big ambitions(抱负)and future goals you might elide the daily pleasures that surround you. Learn to slow down and absorb the wonder and beauty around you. Stay present and focus on the task you’re doing at the moment. Don’t let the life pass you by because you’re always on the go and distracted(分心)by ambition.

Practice looking at life through the lens of contentment(满意)and it will become more natural.

5. How can we live with contentment?

A. To change our lifestyle.

B. To have a motivation in life.

C. To give less attention to what we are grateful for.

D. To realize the difference between needs and desires.

The trouble with school is that you can’t choose the people you get to see every day. If you’re unlucky enough to be stuck with classmates who don’t really “get” you, you’ve just got to try to make the best of it.

But that doesn’t mean you need to “fit in”, or at least in the way that people think. If you try to transform yourself into a clone of everyone else, it won’t help you make friends. It’ll just make you feel like a fake.

You also shouldn’t shut down or refuse to be friends with everyone who doesn’t like you. If you do that, you’ll just make yourself miserable. Instead, you’ve got to work on being comfortable and confident with whom you are while ignoring(忽略)all the haters. Keep on speaking up, asking questions and getting to know people better. If you send out positive energy, then people will generally send some back to you. A couple of them will stay the same, and you’re allowed to forget about them.

If you feel like you’ve doing all that but still not getting anywhere, then don’t give up. Just expand your circle. Get a part-time job at a cool-looking place, join an after-school art class or youth group—do whatever it takes to find a couple of like-minded people to connect with. Even if you don’t find anyone right away, you’ll still be getting some more social experiences under your belt, and that’s always a good thing.

A fun book called Uncool, by Erin Elisabeth Conley, has some tips for folks like you who want to stay positive at school while being true to your personality:

• Throw caution to the wind.

• Don’t tolerate others’ mistakes.

• Have patience with people who are different from you.

• Don’t change just because someone else thinks you should.

• Know that even though you may be a misfit, there’s always some place where you will be welcomed in the world.

9. According to the author, what should you do if you meet people who don’t appreciate you?

A. Just give up.

B. Ask someone else for help.

C. Show positive attitude toward them

D. Try your best to fit in with them.

10. The author agrees that you should take part in more activities in order to        .

No rows of desks in this classroom, and no teacher lecturing at the front. In fact, that’s something Barrie teacher Liz Collett rarely does. Instead, she’s on the move, talking to students about their work, from the small group sitting on the floor playing games to others nearby figuring out a math problem.

The children in this class do not take a spelling test all year-in fact, the school avoids all pencil-and-paper tests-nor do they get assigned homework. Instead, their teacher gives them immediate feedback(反馈)on their work throughout the day.

Welcome to the school of the 21st century, a place where teachers and students cooperate all the time. Such advanced classrooms are trying things, which some might consider as coddling kids-letting students give a voice-recorded essay instead of a written one or even allowing teens to design their own courses.

Though some people blame(谴责)schools for dumbing things down(降低教育标准), others will say such changes are actually based on the newest research on how to attract today’s youth and increase not only their interests, but also their achievements. Many of today’s school are not holding kid’s interests. And if they Ye not interested, they’re not learning-and isn’t that the point?

“Students today say they want their education to be useful and valuable, and don’t want it to be simply repeating the facts. That’s the kind of learning that be happening for many kids,” says Penny Milton, a researcher. “What we could argue is that to become good learners, they need to become thinkers.”

Jan Olson, anther researcher, says schools have been operating the same way since the Industrial Revolution. But the digital age is bringing an education revolution. While using technology is a part of it, what’s important for students is being able to use information and understand it, not just remembering it.

Today’s learner needs fewer traditional tests and more “effective” feedback, ongoing discussion with a teacher, which studies have found is the number one factor in Improving achievement.

12. The first two paragraphs are used to       .

A. blame Liz for not being responsible for her work

B. describe what schools are like in the 21st century

C. give an example of a successful school lesson

D. question whether it is right not to assign homework

13. The underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 means “some people may think it as a way of        ”

A. spoiling children

B. making children become lazy

C. leading children to make mistakes

D. caring about children

14. Jan Olson thinks it important for students to         .

A. repeat the facts without really thinking

B. learn something related to technology

C. make full use of information

D. use technology to improve their grades

15. Which is the most effective way to help students achieve more?

A. Assigning more homework

B. Offering immediate answers.

C. Giving more pencil and paper tests.

D. Holding more discussions with them.

故填and

故填it

Practice makes perfect.

Dear Tom,

How is everything going recently? That has been a long time since we meet in China last time. Having passed the finally exams, I am busy planning a two-weeks trip to the US during this summer holiday. Do you have any suggestions about the choice of America cities? I prefer big and modern cities. I guess I’d better to book a hotel. What is the price for single boy like myself? Is it easy to find Chinese food? What is the traffic like, after I travel between cities in the US? Hope to hearing from you. Thank you!

Best regards!

Dear Ms Li,

I am very happy to have you as our English teacher.

As the world is becoming a global village, English is getting more and important, so mastering English means we can see the world through a new window.

My English is just OK and the two main problems in my study are that I feel it difficult to learn words by heart, and that I often feel nervous when speaking English. I really hope that you can give me good advice on how to memorize new words. Another suggestion is to give us more chances to practise speaking. I believe we can make much progress in English with your help.

Thank you!
