The curtain on the 2008 US presidential election finally rose last month as John McCain and Barack Obama were formally nominated (提名) as candidates of the two major parties. This may be one of the hardest decisions voters have to make between two appealing candidates.

    Before the grass has thickened on the roadside and leaves have started growing on the trees is a perfect time to look around and see just how dirty Britain has become. Jacques Rogge, president of the IOC, summed up his views on the Beijing Olympics on Sunday, speaking to the media for the final time at these Games.

Rogge said the success of the Games justified the IOC’s decision to award them to Beijing.
